The North Texas Aeromodelers

In co-operation with

The City of Denton Parks Department

Welcomes YOU to

North Lakes Park

Model Airplane Flying Field

Flying and building Radio Controlled Model Aircraft is a thrilling, challenging, and skill-oriented sport for all ages.  It offers a healthy, educational, and fun environment in which to interact socially with a wide variety of age groups and professional backgrounds.  At our gatherings, you will see teenagers side by side with the pioneers and heroes of aviation history, together experiencing the thrill of model aviation.

The objective of the North Texas Aeromodelers R/C club is to promote the sport of radio control modeling.  To achieve this goal we maintain the flying site at North Lakes Park in Denton, sponsor various modeling activities throughout the year, and promote learning and safety.  The club is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) “Gold Leader” Chartered Club (#1659).  Visit the AMA's website at www.modelaircraft.org .

Available to all club members:

  • Introductory flight instruction.

  • Instruction and advice in everything from basic to advanced construction and piloting techniques.

  • Assistance in “Trimming-Out your plane during its maiden flight, as well as giving advice concerning engines, propellers, info about trainer planes that are “user friendly”, which size power plant you really need, etc.

  • Monthly club newsletter by mail or email.

  • Club website www.aeromodelers.org

  • The list could go on, suffice to say that for a small annual fee ($50 adult, $15 under 18, no initiation fee), you will not only open yourself to a veritable font of useful assistance and camaraderie, but you will be doing your part to help secure and maintain this flying site.

Insta-scan of club rules:

  • Unless you are a club member and also hold AMA membership, you are liable for your flight activities and/or consequences.

  • All club members shall show proof of liability coverage for the operation of model aircraft by displaying a current AMA membership card on the frequency board. If someone already has the frequency in use, you must arrange with that person to share it before turning on your radio.

  • Possession/Use of, alcohol, narcotics or firearms is strictly forbidden.

  • No engines are to be started or run behind the safety fence. There are four plane stands that are a shared resource for everyone to use for starting and running up engines.

  • Glow and Gas engine flight hours start at 9AM on Sundays and 8AM the rest if the week.

  • Flight boundaries include the power lines to the North, the trees to the West, the dam to the South, and the flight line (denoted by the 4 pilot stations at the edge of the runway).

  • A maximum of four aircraft are allowed in the air at any given time.

  • Pilots should respect their fellow flyers. There's enough airspace available such that everyone can pretty much have their own area away from where others are flying.

Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at a time specified in the monthly newsletter.  Call or ask a club representative for details on location, or check the "NEWS" section or  latest news letter on the website.

Learn to Fly R/C

With the North Texas Aeromodelers

FLIGHT TRAINING PROGRAM

The North Texas Aeromodelers R/C club is proud to present:

Introductory Flight Training Program

To introduce prospective aeromodelers to the thrill and excitement of flying radio controlled aircraft, the club (along with the generous support of our local Hobby Shops), is sponsoring an introductory flight program.  The club will provide the model, radio, fuel and a qualified trainer; all you have to do is bring yourself!!  Introductory Flights are free and highly encouraged!  Everyone is welcome to "give it a try"!

Basic Flight Training Program

Once you have your own aircraft, our expert instructors will teach you to fly with confidence and safety.  Learn at your own pace.  We will take you step by step through your first solo flight.  Free to all club members.

Getting Started

Although you may like to start out with high performance aerobatic aircraft, you must resist temptation.  Learning to fly R/C aircraft requires a good trainer plane and lots of practice.   Many kits and ARF  (almost-ready-to-fly) models are available as trainers including the Hobbico Nexstar and Hangar 9 PTS P-51.  Be sure to visit your local Hobby Shop for advice and personal assistance, and to see the latest items available!
