About Our Club

        North Texas Aeromodelers fly at a field located at a North Lakes Park in Denton, Texas.  See the Field Map page for directions.  The park is owned by the City of Denton but the field and improvements at the field are provided and maintained by the Club.  We have a monthly meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at the recreation center located to the West of the field at times specified in the newsletter.  Everyone is encouraged to attend even if you're not a current member.

       We generally fly every weekend weather permitting although you will find members flying at the field during the week as well. Club member skill levels range from beginner to advanced with flying styles that include scale, aerobatics and 3D. We also have helicopter pilots; we even have a special area set aside for them if they choose to avoid the airplanes. 

          Aspiring RC pilots are welcome even if they don't have a plane yet. If arranged for in advance, we can have a club trainer airplane available for you to take an introductory flight with an instructor. Once you've purchased your plane, we can provide help setting it up and help you make sure it's safe to fly.  We have 3 primary instructors, all of whom are very experienced at getting new flyers in the air.

         Experienced pilots and visitors are equally welcome. We have some basic field rules which are oriented toward safety, common sense and being courteous to your fellow flyers. They include:

• No engines are to be started or run behind the safety fence. There are four plane stands that are a shared resource for everyone to use for starting and running up engines.

• Glow and Gas engine flight hours start at 9Am on Sundays and 8AM the rest if the week.

• Flight boundaries include the power lines to the North, the trees to the West, the dam to the South, and the flight line (denoted by the 4 pilot stations at the edge of the runway).

• A maximum of four aircraft are allowed in the air at any given time.

• Pilots should respect their fellow flyers. There's enough airspace available such that everyone can pretty much have their own area away from where others are flying.

• Frequencies you intend to use must be posted on the frequency board with your ID. If someone already has the frequency in use, you must arrange with that person to share it before turning on your radio.
